IMPORTANT Updates for Library Schedule
On Friday, September 3, 2010, I spoke with Cathy Frank at the Calcasieu Parish Library about several important items regarding the use of the Library for upcoming meetings.
1. The Library needs the use of the meeting room on the second Monday of December 2010 (the 13th), so I arranged that we will use it on Monday, December 6, 2010, which is the FIRST Monday in December.
2. Mr. Michael Sawyer, Library Director, did present our letter protesting the new room rental rates to the Board of Directors, and as we expected, they choose to keep the new rates. I was told that since the change in rates, room rentals have fallen significantly... also as we expected.
3. I asked about scheduling the smaller room in 2011, as we have discussed, and was told that we can only schedule it 3 months in advance, so I cannot do that until October 1. Even then, it may be that we can only schedule for one month at a time (3 months in advance).
4. I was also told that the new rate for the small room is the same as the large room ($50), despite having been previously told that the small meeting room will be $10!!! This last item, is the "straw that broke the camel's back", as I do not feel that our group can afford this fee. Certainly not for the entire year.
THEREFORE, IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE FIND A NEW AND SUITABLE MEETING LOCATION FOR 2011.
We have discussed this many times over the last few months, but as we had the use of the smaller meeting room as an alternative, and could afford the $10 rate, we may not have felt the pressure to find other options, but this is no longer the case.
Note that the Sulphur Library Meeting Room is $10, if available, and if it is suitable, so could be a possibility, if nothing else is available.
I will email this notice to all club members, and will also try to post it on the front page of our website, in hopes that more people see it. We welcome any useful suggestions from all, whether club members or not.
Our needs are fairly simple: a room that can accommodate 15-20 people, with seating for all (which we would be willing to set up), safe and well-lit parking, and internet service (Wi-Fi is preferred, but an Ethernet connection is fine). An available projection screen would be nice, but we can furnish our own if needed.
